Hi there!

My beautiful wife and I on a night out.

My name is Christopher Hayes, and I am a graduate student in the Schal Lab at NC State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. I am an NC native, born in the western part of the state, and moved to the Raleigh-Durham area in pursuit of a college education. I am married to the love of my life, and we will soon welcome our first child into the world. I have two dogs, and I enjoy spending my time outdoors, reading, and watching crime shows.

It was during my undergraduate time at NC State that I found and fell in love with the field of entomology! It all began in a vector entomology lab where I worked to help rear Anopheles quadrimaculatus mosquitoes and inoculate them with dog heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis).

Two of the best pups!

Following my graduation I spent time as a crisis response volunteer in Germany, and quickly became aware that the global connections of human health are vast and intricate. Returning to the States I took a position at a pest control company in Raleigh, NC, and soon found myself enamored with urban entomology and a desire to better understand the pests we all tend to hate! My passion for global health was still present though, and soon I had the opportunity to enter in and complete a masters program in global health at Duke University in Durham, NC. This is just a small piece of my journey, and I go into more detail about all of these experiences, my current research, and my other passions throughout this website. Feel free to explore, and welcome!
